Writer

I mostly write stories about people seeking a place in their world. Sometimes that world is the same as ours, sometimes it’s not.

As a former art historian and researcher, I frequently draw on visual, theoretical, historical, and mythological sources for inspiration. Examples can be found on the Visual Writer blog.

My non-fiction publications include scholarly papers on global visual culture and essays for the Art Institute of Chicago’s exhibition and collection catalogue, The Age of Picasso and Matisse (2013 and 2014). I also contributed research to, and wrote footnotes for, the museum’s 2019 online collection catalogue, Matisse Paintings, Works on Paper, Sculpture, and Textiles at the Art Institute of Chicago

Editor

As an editor, I seek to support authors by giving them thorough, thoughtful, and honest feedback. To this end, I offer a holistic approach that not only addresses line and copy editing, but also tests the story’s internal logic, consistency, and clarity. In addition to working with independent writers, I serve as Editor for Drum Tower Press. Publications I edited have gone on to receive Agatha and Silver Falchion nominations, a Silver Falchion award, and N. N. Light Awards.

More information on hiring and my editorial process can be found on the Hire page. I also offer generalized author tips on my Notes from an Editor blog.
